The Freechild Institute is a global thought leader dedicated to engaging young people in changing the world. Freechild serves nonprofits, K-12 schools, government agencies, associations, and other organizations around the world to empower youth and adults with a youth-positive mindset through professional development, certification training, curriculum content, and consulting.
Since 2001, the Freechild Institute for Youth Engagement has supported young people changing the world. If you work for youth voice, youth engagement, youth empowerment, youth leadership, youth/adult partnerships or many other areas, you’ll find tools, examples and more throughout our website.
Freechild is a private, not-for-profit entity that contracts with schools, government and community organizations to promote youth engagement. In order to do this, we offer training, tools, programs, consulting and other services. This website is our free, easy-to-access tool for youth and adults to engage youth in changing the world.
If you are struggling against racism, economic discrimination, educational inequities or other social justice issues, our website can teach you how to connect with children and youth.
Why should youth change the world?
Engaging young people throughout society can move children and youth to feel more ownership in their lives and demonstrate a more giving role in the community. You can connect anything you are passionate about to changing the world in positive, powerful ways. Learn more »
Testimonials
“By far the largest repository of projects, ideas, and organizational links, this resource provides more than adequate information to help students brainstorm ideas in order to start their own initiatives.” – School Library Journal
“The Freechild Project is especially relevant in getting young people to participate in the realms of politics and critical education.” – Henry Giroux
In addition to our website, we also offer training, program consultation, and technical assistance for children, youth and adults. Moving beyond simple concepts, we identify the roots of adultism; build structures to support youth integration; and transform roles for adults as allies to young people.
