Connect
A small bi-monthly magazine, produced since late 1979, that seeks to
document and resource examples of active student participation in
primary and secondary schools. It is written by and for
teachers, students and others who are interested and involved in such
approaches. It is practical in tone, containing information,
case studies, resources, whinges, celebrations, questions and so on.
It encourages sharing and reflection about ways in which the real,
active, participation and citizenship of young people can be
recognised and encouraged through schools.

The NSW Government has quite a bit of
information on youth councils and on
involving young people in local government on its youth website at
http://www.youth.nsw.gov.au/info/ . I have only had a
brief look just now,
but last time I looked in detail there were actually comprehensive
guidelines for local councils on how to involve young people in their
work.
Most state governments have youth websites now, as does the
Commonwealth
government at www.thesource.gov.au and www.youth.gov.au, and they are
a
great place to start your search for information. The second
Commonwealth
youth website I mentioned has a number of links to useful research,
including the area you're interested in, as does Richard's youthgas
site I
believe. There's actually quite a bit of material been written in
this
area.
